How much do we need?
Our body works properly if the ideal ratio of omega-6 and omega-3 is between 1:1 and 4:1. Unfortunately, this value is hardly ever reached in Europe today.
Fast food and processed foods have a number of negative effects on our body, including the fact that they are full off omega-6 fatty acids. The precious omega-3 source is hardly consumed by saltwater fish and mushrooms. Thus, in the West, the ratio will move 20-30 or even more in the direction of the omega-6.

How do I get the proper ratio of fatty acids?
First of all, we have to reduce the intake of omega-6. We should avoid eating vegetable oils, seeds, and fat coming from fed animals. It is worth using sweet butter or coconut fat during baking. Their omega-6 content is only 1-2 percent, compared to 50 percent of sunflower oil.
There are plenty of omega-6 in all seeds with the exception of Turkish hazelnuts, almonds and cashews. On the other hand, we need to increase our omega-3 intake by consuming more seafood and using purified fish oil. Unfortunately, we cannot consume enough fish to keep our body healthy, because of the toxins in seafood due to the contamination of salt water.
How to choose the right fish oil product?
There are many kinds of fish oil products around the world. In Europe, it is not mandatory to indicate that a certain fish oil product contains omega-3 fatty acids in the form of natural triglycerides or as artificially modified ethyl esters. These products are chemically modified if they contain more than 38 percent of omega-3. It is important to be aware that virgin fish oil contains more vitamins however it is more polluted, because it does not go through any purification process.
The best choice is the liquid form of purified fish oil because of the active ingredients. It is also economical. Another advantage of liquid is that manufacturers cannot use poor quality oil because of it is strong and strange taste.
